We have a healthy obsession with the ways of Apple, not just the products but their way of doing business. Apple seems to have created an environment that cuts through “design by committee” to create amazing innovation, while leveraging partner relationships to bolster the model. At the surface this may seem contradictory, but their secret, and one we try to emulate, is to carefully define what we “intellectually own” and do that amazingly well, and trust that that will translate into a better experience for our partners and colleagues who contribute to the engineering of large complex systems.
